Before I became a mother, I knew exactly what I wanted family life to look like for me one day. And somehow, that thought got lost along the way.
I became a mum for the first time in 2022, when my daughter Eloïse was born. Completely in love, utterly overwhelmed and overjoyed, my husband and I embarked on this new life together. She was a pandemic baby, like so many others during those years.
But her birth also brought many new fears that I didn’t understand at the time. I also asked myself every day: What kind of mother do I even want to be? What do I want to do every day? What should our everyday life look like?

And all my wonderful visions were buried — by my fears. By the housework. By the sleepless nights.
I always imagined our family life out in nature. In the forest. Going for walks. Living according to the seasons. Baking fresh things and my daughter eating wholesome, balanced meals every day. But she was a picky eater through and through from the very beginning. I was tired and anxious. And overwhelmed by all the new challenges of this new everyday life.
Two and a half years later, my youngest wild one was born — Collin. He brought another round of surprises. Just when I thought I was returning to my values and the things I believed in, he came along and turned our lives upside down. He was a colicky baby, or what is also called a high-need baby. He would scream for hours in the evenings. I slipped into severe postpartum depression, which was only diagnosed when he was already eleven months old.
With medication, I was able to recover. I no longer need it now — and I returned to the kind of mum I had wanted to be. A lot changed in 2026. I was able to heal.

We found new friendships. We became more socially active as a family than ever before. We went to toddler gymnastics. To playdates. To the playground. Week after week, a new get-together.
Now it is October — and with the start of my studies, I am also longing, simply as a person, for a simple and slow counterbalance.
I can feel again where we want to go as a family. Into nature. To the craft table. Outside.
So, who are we?
A completely average family that is still finding its place and its path. Average in the very best sense of the word.
Me, Julia, 31 years old.
René, 29 years old.
Eloïse, 4 years old, and Collin, 2 years old.
All of us, in our own way, trying to find our little place in this sweet little world.
